The house I want to live in, in the future
The house to live in is very important for the life. But normally it is rather difficult to choose the ideal house to live in because of work, money, and education of children or some other family reasons.
In my case I have moved many times and I used to live in the various types of houses in various places, such as several domestic cities in Japan and foreign countries. Even though I had many experiences, I could not find myself satisfied with those houses. It is very difficult to realize my ideal.
If I could choose the house to live in, in the future, I would like to make my dream come true. The house should be grand and have many spacious rooms which overlook the beautiful scenery. Location is to be desirable in the urban area, if possible, along the sea shore.

Four personalities
In my career I have met various types of people. I herewith show you four personalities.
I have friends, but not so many. One of my friends is a good company but brutally sensitive. Even when we talk about only daily topics, I have to pay attention to his response and expression on his face. Otherwise he might get hurt by my opinion, because he is delicate and vulnerable to just a slight reaction. Anyway he is intelligent enough and he keeps up with what’s going on in the world. In a sense he is my good adviser and consultant.
Another friend of mine has a contrasting character. He has a happy-go- lucky personality. In a sense, I envy him. It does not mean that all has been going well with his life. He got married and got two children. He has been getting along with his family for some time. But, all of a sudden, he let me know that he got divorced. When we met, he did not show troubled face any more. He seemed to be enjoying a carefree life. Now he is my good golf mate and we promised to play golf together at least until eighty years old.
Thirdly I introduce my former boss. He was highly intelligent with a razor-sharp mind. On the other hand he had a selfish streak and would not have listened to the opinions of his subordinates. He had a strong leadership and accomplished many important projects in his career. However, few men got happy in their lives under his control. It is difficult for me to judge properly what he did, because I consider that work and achievements have to be evaluated by how they served to the public and the happiness of stakeholders.
Lastly I would like to mention about what kind of personality I want to be. It is the difficult thing to say about my own personality. As I grow older, I fall into the self-question of who I am. That is to say I am optimistic or pessimistic, open-minded or selfish and so on. The best personality might have every positive aspect of characters, but nobody has it. I found that this is the way I am, and I cannot change.

What do I think about Japanese future, pessimistic or optimistic?
Recently many people have got nervous about Japanese future, and pessimistic opinion is, if anything, prevailing among them. There are some discussion points for the prospect. Let us consider about the matter.
In fact, Japan has been suffering from serious depression for these ten years. However, this is not peculiar to Japan but the global economy has the same problem as well except China and some other developing countries. I fear that Japanese people might have lost their self-confidence and courage to change the situation. Who believes that Japanese economy is so weak comparing with other developed countries? Japan cannot be treated as No.1 anymore, but few people have doubt that Japan has highly skilled workforth which would be superior to many global industries, well organized infrastructure and diligent nationality.
Another main reason of the negative way of thinking comes from the weak kneed diplomatic policy. Recently there happened the Chinese invasion into Japanese territory, Senkaku Islands. Furthermore Russian President Medvedev neglected Japan’s sovereignty and visited the Northern Territory all of a sudden. These are the humiliating experiences from the historic standpoint, which has awakened the national concern through the mass media though. When was Japan reduced to the point of not being able to defend itself? There is no boring one than to see a man who has lost self-confidence. It goes without saying that he cannot gain popularity among women. On the other hand, it is important for us to keep our head in a crisis while remembering that professional critics say Japan has good military power against hypothetical enemies.
To our regret, there are quite a few valuable political leaders at the moment. Though that is a worrying problem, Japanese people could have tenacity and endurance until building up rigid political foundation.
It would be better for us to keep calm judging the current situation of Japan, and then the future will welcome Japan without fail.

English education in Japanese elementary school
English education in elementary school will start from next spring. It has been expected for a long time in Japan. I agree with the system. The issue has been actively discussed in various scenes of education. Many critics and parents strongly insist that second language learning has to be started as early as possible, because children have possibility to acquire languages innately without any special training. It is common the parents expect their children to be bilingual when they grow up. Nobody knows, however, how children get the knowledge of language in their brains. Some will succeed and others will not. Basically it depends on individuals.
On the other hand, it is true that there are very strong opposite opinions. They say that children should learn mother language at first. Otherwise, they will lose the chance to get Japanese grammar and the basic framework, and they might miss identity as the Japanese eventually. Anyway, the die is cast and it will start in next spring.
First of all, I would like to refer to my own background. I started to study English in junior high school. At that time I tried very hard to read and write, but little audio lingual exercise. To my regret, I could not find any native speakers in my surroundings. The English learning method was far behind today’s system as well. Though a long time has passed since then, my efforts might have resulted in fail. Because I still have many difficulties in English learning. The good beginning results in good outcome.
Judging from the fact that I brought up three children abroad, it would be better to start learning English as a second language at the age of around 8 to10 years old. Too early learning of a new language threatens what they have already gained for themselves; late beginning over marginal ages could not have an intended effect on a new language acquisition. However, there still seems to be an element that can only depending on individuals; some children can, others cannot.
At elementary school, teachers have to deal with about 40 pupils in the class. Teacher can give English lessons but they cannot give an education. At the end of the lesson, the group turns into 40 individuals who go off to use English for their own use and in their own ways. Even such an English class is better than nothing in the class. Joking aside, I really expect the beginning of English education and I hope Japanese people to be much positive in using English as a global communication method in the future.

Japan-China relationship
Japan and China have a very long close relationship in the history. For many years, we have introduced Chinese culture and copied it. On the other hand we sometimes fought against that country. In the World WarⅡ, Japan invaded into China and continued the war for a long time, but being finally defeated. In the last 60 years, Japan has compensated a lot for the damage. After the war, Japan has highly developed and advanced into China in the field of the economy. Many industries including small and medium sized companies found a market gap opportunity in China. China has accomplished rapid development as well and got beyond Japan economically. Accordingly China produced so many rich people, who dress in wealthy clothes and do expensive shopping in the top-brand boutiques. Now Japan and China are closely related partners, standing on the spirit of reciprocity.
Accidentally there happened invasion by a Chinese fishing boat into the Japanese territory, the area of sea around Senkaku Islands in Okinawa Prefecture. Most of the Japanese got angry against the Chinese illegal action, the arrogant attitude and also the cowardice of the Japanese government. The relationship between both countries got worse quickly. The two governments are trying to improve the air, but the matter is very complicated and deep-rooted. So it would take a long time to repair the strategic –reciprocal relationship.

My most impressive trip recently
My most impressive trip recently
I made one week- trip to Hokkaido with my wife in this September. During the trip, the weather was very lovely and comfortable. Firstly I played golf . This is the first golf in Hokkaido. It was amazing and exciting, furthermore, much better than I expected. While playing golf, I found beautiful villas along the golf course by chance, which have been developed aiming at Chinese investment. I heard that those villas were sold out as soon as they had been completed. The Japanese have been suffering from long depression, so I thought the real estate business were typically bad. Here again, I realize the Chinese economic power is surprising. People say that they are trying to buy real estate here and there in Hokkaido. Anyway, one week was long enough for us to enjoy the trip.
Whole through the trip, we drove around all the way. We dropped in at Sapporo Asahikawa, Obihiro and so on. We found that Hokkaido looked like Europe or Canada. We really enjoyed the landscape of vast fields and many piles of pasture, because we missed the old days in those countries.
When I make a trip, I try to find something different from the daily life of myself. It would be a landscape, culture and customs, or kindness of the people over there. In Hokkaido, I was deeply impressed by those differences. The air is clean and the nature is primitive; they are quite different from Kansai area. I was surprised to see large schools of salmon fish coming up for spawning in many rivers. The dishes were marvelous and I gained two kilos during the stay. With all good memories, I am worried about the new task, because I am struggling for arranging many photos now.

Thinking about gender
Thinking about gender
What is the global standard in terms of gender equality? Who decide it? People say that gender equality in Japan is far behind other countries, such as the U.S, Germany, France, Britain and others. It is true that the numbers of Japanese women in politics, government and business are quite fewer than those in the listed countries. However, the reason is not simple. Each gender has own superior characteristics to another. The society needs more suitable gender to the occasion. There might be historical and cultural reasons for that matter.
As a matter of fact, we cannot find any institutional obstacles against gender equality in Japan. Furthermore, nobody can legally prohibit women’s participation into the society. The doors are open for every woman. Actually the number of women has been rapidly increasing in almost every social stage. For instance, if you see the Kobe Gaidai campus, it is obvious that women are not subordinate to men.
Some people say that the government assistance is needed for gender equality, especially for woman’s participation in the society. If we consider that men and women stand on an equal footing, such a support may not be fair for every one of us. Notwithstanding if men or women, we are given equal chance for the possible success. Whether we will be able to succeed or not, it entirely depends on our efforts and some luck.
As a consequent, I have no doubt that any obstacles for gender equality should be excluded to build up free and motivational society. Every people will be rewarded by each efforts and competence regardless gender. However, it will take proper time for good landing; indeed, the true reason of gender bias remains in the customs and people’s mind.
